Why a Lincoln Registry?
The objective is to document as many 1950-1980 Lincolns and Lincoln Continentals as possible. Whether or not the car exists and regardless of its condition, documenting Lincolns helps us to understand and appreciate the significance of the marque. The Registry is not a beauty contest, rather it is an open-ended historical project that is available to anyone interested. The potential success of the Lincoln Registry greatly depends on user input. You can register cars even if all you have is a data plate, a build sheet, an old registration or title or other piece of authentic documentation. The Lincoln Registry is maintained in Camillus, New York by the creator of the Thunderbird Registryand the Continental Mark III Registry.
Continental Mark II vs.
Strictly speaking, the Continental Mark II is not a Lincoln or a Lincoln Continental. It is simply a “Continental”, and “Mark II” is the series name. To be correct, the titles or DMV papers for these cars should state the make as “Continental” , however, modern efficiencies and bureaucratic policies have popularized the wrong name for these cars. While the Continental Mark II was produced for the 1956 and 1957 model years, there is no actual model year attached to the individual cars, per Ford. However, DMV rules call for a model year and we as mere mortals cannot argue with the DMV. Starting with the 1958 model year, the Continental became part of the Lincoln lineup; now it was legally a Lincoln. In 1969, the Lincoln Continental Mark III series was re-introduced as a totally different body style than the other Lincolns.This website author also maintains a database that includes all Continental Mark II cars that were built, so as such, it is not a registry as much as it is a compilation of the entire production run. Because all of the Mark II VINs and much more are known, the Continental Mark II website operates independently.
